Jimmy Reed was the biggest blues artist of the 50s and early 60s, outselling giants such as Muddy Waters and B.B. King. His stature was so great that Vee-Jay released a double album on him in 1961, a rarity at the time even for rock and pop artists. Though marketed as a live album, At Carnegie Hall was actually a collection of new stereo versions of Reed s biggest hits. As such, it was tremendously influential on a generation of rockers, including Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, and Aretha Franklin, all of whom covered songs from this album

The Great Jimmy Reed! - Jimmy Reed recorded for the Vee-Jay label for most of his career. Vee-Jay has been out of business since the mid-1960 s, and Jimmy Reed s catalogue has been in disrepair for years. This CD represents a great chance to hear Jimmy Reed at his wonderful best. Jimmy Reed was an established artist at the peak of his powers when this album was recorded. Another good choice would be The Best Of Jimmy Reed on the GNP label I believe. Carnegie Hall is not a recording of a live performance. Jimmy Reed is playing previously recorded material in a recording studio. Jimmy Reed appeared at Carnegie Hall, and Vee-Jay wanted to capitalize on the prestigious name association. Amazon describes Jimmy Reed as selling more records than B. B. King in the 1950 s. This is surely incorrect, even considering the unreliable accounting practices of independent record companies of the era. Don t be deterred. Jimmy Reed was a great artist, and this is a great album!

LIVE OR NOT LIVE - I have this record on a UK issue LP Stateside label and I was disapointed back in those days that the recording was not live.So beware!!!!I have also another Jimmy Reed LP Live at Soul City and the same here, completely devoid of any audience.I still wonder why these recordings were issued as live and how can one write , this compilation of Jimmy Reed is a fine study of the man singing in live concert on the sleeve? .

Pay Attention - Please note that this reissue of a release only attempts to recreate Mr. Reed s appearance at Carnegie Hall. There is no actual recording of that event. Amazon s description of the product as live is incorrect and represents inacurate or no research.
